An eau de parfum is generally presented as more concentrated than an eau de toilette, but concentration alone does not predict staying power or diffusion. Two versions with a similar name can also have different olfactory balances. The choice is therefore made on the fragrance, its evolution and your use.
EDP means eau de parfum and EDT eau de toilette. These are useful presentation guides, but they do not replace reading the product sheet. We do not give a universal percentage applicable to all brands: when a number is important to you, check what the manufacturer actually publishes.
What to compare between the two versions?
| Criterion | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Notes | Are the announced accords the same or rebalanced? |
| Evolution | Which version do I like after opening and later in the day? |
| Projection | Does the presence around me suit my environment? |
| Longevity | What remains in the conditions in which I actually wear the perfume? |
| Price and volume | Am I comparing the same capacity and the total cost? |
Does an eau de parfum always last longer?
No. The formula, application, skin and environment play a role in the result. An eau de parfum can also seem less diffusing than an eau de toilette without having disappeared. The holding and projection are two different observations.
To compare two versions, use a similar quantity of comparable days. Note the initial impression and the one at the end of the day. Our longevity evaluation method avoids transforming a category into a promise of hours.
What to choose for everyday life?
Choose the version you like to wear in your usual conditions. For a shared space, start with a measured application. An eau de toilette is not automatically discreet, and an eau de parfum is not reserved for the evening.
The budget also matters: compare the capacity, the price per milliliter and the format that suits you. There's no need to pay more for a version just because the name suggests more intensity.
And the perfume extract?
The extract is often presented in a more concentrated direction, but one must also check the formula, recommendations for use and experience on skin. The guide extract or eau de parfum extends this comparison. No name replaces the personal pleasure of wearing a fragrance.
Frequently asked questions
Is an eau de toilette a lower quality perfume?
No. The designation does not constitute a quality classification. Compare notes and how you like to wear them.
Should we change concentration depending on the season?
Not necessarily. Temperature and your environment can change the experience; test the desired version and adapt the application.
Can I buy EDP if I already know EDT?
You can, but try it first if a difference in tuning or intensity risks changing your preference. Two versions of a name are not necessarily interchangeable.
