A long-lasting perfume remains perceptible for the duration corresponding to your use. To choose it, compare tests on your skin in similar conditions. The price, the vanilla note or the mention “eau de parfum” are not enough to guarantee eight, twelve or twenty-four hours of wear.
A pleasant perfume at the end of the day can remain very close to the skin. Another may diffuse strongly at first then become more discreet. Before looking for “the perfume that lasts the longest”, specify whether you want an odor that is still perceptible to you or a presence noticed from a distance.
longevity, projection and sillage: three different criteria
- Longevity describes how long the fragrance remains perceptible under the conditions observed.
- The projection describes its diffusion around the person who wears it.
- The scent trail is the olfactory trace perceived after its passage.
Our table of three dimensions details this distinction. A scent close to the skin has not necessarily disappeared; he can simply project less.
Why does the longevity vary from one test to another?
The formula, the quantity applied, the area of application, the skin, the textile and the environment modify the experience. Your own perception may also change when you wear a scent for a long time. No longer noticing it therefore does not prove, in itself, that no one perceives it anymore.
An eau de parfum and an eau de toilette with a similar name may have different balances. It is not reliable to automatically classify them by duration based on the format alone. Compare the two if this criterion determines your purchase: see eau de parfum or eau de toilette.
A simple method to compare two perfumes
- Choose comparable days. Avoid comparing an outing in the cold to an active day in high heat.
- Use a similar amount. Note the number of applications and their location, following the product advice.
- Wear only one perfume at a time. Highly scented body products can also blur your impressions.
- Observe at several times. For example at the start, after two hours and at the end of the day. These are personal moments of measurement, with no promised duration.
- Distinguish between distance and duration. Note if you perceive it near the skin or around you. You can ask for the impression of a loved one, without making an objective measurement.
- Try the favorite again. A second day gives a more useful benchmark than a single impression in the store.
| Moment | Close to the skin | Remote | Pleasure of wearing it |
|---|---|---|---|
| After application | Your observation | Your observation | Your impression |
| After two hours | Your observation | Your observation | Your impression |
| End of day | Your observation | Your observation | Your impression |
What to do if the perfume seems to disappear quickly?
First check the conditions of your test before multiplying the sprays. Keep your usual skincare routine and let the products applied to the skin settle before the perfume. If your skin is sensitive or irritated, follow the instructions for use and avoid application to the affected area.
On textiles, check that this use is suitable for the product and the fabric; a perfume can leave traces. Do not replace a longevity assessment with systematic spraying on the hair. A mist intended for hair and a classic perfume do not necessarily have the same use.
Which perfumes to compare in the EL KAYAN collection?
First choose a direction that you like: vanilla, gourmand or woody. Check the discovery formats on the product sheets, then compare the longevity with the method above. This guide does not designate a “champion” without comparable measurements.
Frequently asked questions
Which women's perfume lasts the longest?
We do not have a measured ranking allowing us to confirm this for all people. Compare your candidates on skin and distinguish the duration of their broadcast.
Should I apply more perfume to make it last?
Increasing the quantity can especially make the start more intense. Start by checking the recommended dosage and your testing conditions, taking into account the people around you.
Does an extract always last longer than an eau de parfum?
No. Concentration is an element of the formula, without being a universal guarantee of duration. Also compare the evolution and wearing comfort.
